He warned that his people “ would not continue to live at the mercy of these heartless bandits. ”
Dariye, who is representing Plateau Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, is a native of Mushere in Bokkos LGA .
According to him , there is no justification for the violence unleashed on his people “ as the fighting groups have lived together for a very long time. ”
It was reported that two days of attacks and killings in Daffo District of Bokkos LGA last week left 16 persons dead and over 200 houses destroyed .
Many of the killings by suspected Fulani herdsmen took place between Thursday and Friday, at a time President Muhammadu Buhari was on a one- day working visit to Plateau State .
Dariye was one of the key actors who gave Buhari a standing ovation during the Town Hall meeting .
Dariye, in a statement titled , “ The Daffo killings , let ’ s bury the hatchet , ” said he was “ deeply saddened by the unfortunate occurrences. ”
He said , “ I am saddened as the killings continue unabated even after the local government authorities and stakeholders including elders had been assured of the stoppage to the carnage after several meetings with the warring sides in the conflict.
“ Dialogue remains the only solution to the lingering crisis in Bokkos council and other parts of Plateau State where herders and local farmers are having a misunderstanding . ”
Dariye warned that “ resorting to taking up arms would not bring any solution to the problem as two wrongs cannot make a right . ”
While calling on the killers to sheathe their swords, the former governor advised security agencies in the state to
“ fish out the perpetrators of this devilish acts and bring them to book . ”
He expressed his condolences to the families of the victims of the wanton killings in Daffo.
