  No fewer than 1,570 Nigerians were kidnapped between January and November 2020 in 366 reported cases, Daily Trust investigation reveals. The kidnappers raked in over N311 million from payment of ransom by relatives of their victims within this period, though they demanded over N6.9 billion from their victims. The money paid did not include millions of naira paid by some families who chose to keep quiet because of threats or simply to have their peace. Daily Trust reports that there has been an upsurge in kidnapping in Nigeria with 41 cases reported in November. The trend has spread to some tertiary institutions in Kaduna State while the Federal Capital Territory was also not spared with 31 reported cases in 11 months. Major arteries including the Abuja-Kaduna and Abuja-Lokoja roads have turned to kidnappers’ hotspots, raising fears in commuters. The young and old have been victims.   A Nigerian man, Ridwan Oyewunmi, has called on Nigerians on social media to help him get justice after a school teacher who is currently on the run, allegedly beat his younger brother, Boluwatife Omelaja, to death at a school in Ikorodu, Lagos state on Thursday, November 26, IgbereTV reports. Recall that before her death, Henrietta Alokha was the principal of Bethlehem High School, Abule Ado. Residents flee as Boko Haram take over Borno communities There has been mass movement of people out of communities in Borno State through Damaturu the Yobe State capital to Bauchi, Gombe, Kebbi, Zamfara, Kebbi and Jigawa states. Residents told our correspondent, the Boko Haram insurgents, who attacked some communities in Borno, were targeting soldiers. Two men were allegedly killed by drunk policemen in the early hours of today during new year celebration in Edo State. The incident reportedly happened at Kings square, Benin, Edo. According to an eyewitness, Alpha, the drunk policemen were also trying to celebrate by firing gunshots into the air at their station opposite the Oba market, but instead opened fire on the duo. In its New Year message yesterday, the association urged government not to involve the military in the polls, to prevent voter intimidation.
